Today there are more options when it comes to breast implants than have ever before been available in El Paso, Texas and throughout the United States. By providing a variety of options, Dr. Miguel Gallegos ensures that his patients receive the cosmetic results they desire. Dr. Gallegos can answer your questions about the current array of choices and help you determine the perfect fit for your aesthetic goals. Breast implants are categorized by their shape, profile, and material.
Implants are either round or teardrop-shaped. The round-shaped implant is the most common type of implant used in breast augmentation surgery. They tend to provide a fuller appearance than teardrop implants. Like their namesake, teardrop implants possess more volume in the lower half of the implant. They are typically preferred by those who have little to no breast tissue.
Saline or silicone? Each type of implant presents its own set of advantages and disadvantages. During your consultation Dr. Gallegos can help you determine which type is most suitable for you.
Comprised of an outer silicone shell filled with sterile salt water, saline breast implants are inserted empty and filled once they are in place. Because they are filled at the time of surgery to their appropriate size, saline implants often require a smaller incision than silicone implants.
Silicone breast implants are made of an outer silicone shell filled with silicone gel. The gel is designed to make the implants look and feel like natural breast tissue. Unlike their saline-filled counterparts, silicone breast implants come pre-filled and therefore may require a larger incision.
A breast implant’s profile determines how far the implant projects from the chest wall. There are four profile levels: moderate, moderate plus, high, and ultra-high. Dr. Gallegos can help you determine which profile is right for you based on the size of your breasts, your anatomy, and your personal preferences.
